Hi all!

Recently, a brand new hp 4345mfp appeared next to my cubicle and I was
wondering if, given that it already runs its own web server, it is
possible to enable full access to it's hard drive via ftp to set up my
own web page there.

Any guidance would be highly appreciated.

Best regards

Maciek

There are some obvious issues like permission, security, flash space,
and development tools.

What does the printer offer that would make it a better web server than
the company web server or your own computer?

I would like to just put a single html page there. Obviously, as it has
hard drive which can be easily taken out, this is doable the physical
way. I'm seeking for a software solution which would not involve taking
the thing apart, though. I've got all the admin privileges for the
printer.

Long story made short, nothing. I treat this endeavour as just part of
my R&D :-).

Removing the drive and putting your files there would probably not make
them available through the web server. The web server software is
likely to have been written to not act as a general purpose web server,
for size and security reasons. For example, making sure that other
users can't read the payroll file that is being printed.

If you mean the web server software is on the drive and can be modified,
that's possible, although it's likely kept in flash. You may be able to
modify a flash image and download it to the printer. HP probably has
measures to keep that from happening.
