It has been reported that back in October Friend Finder Networks was hacked resulting in the exposure of private details relating to 412 million accounts - making it the largest recorded data breach. The group operates a site called Adult Friend Finder, which has millions of active users - and presumably a large number of them will not want their details - or the fact that they are a member at all - exposed.

The data accounts for two decades' worth of data from the company's largest sites, according to breach notification LeakedSource, which obtained the data.

The attack happened at around the same time as one security researcher, known as Revolver, disclosed a local file inclusion flawon the AdultFriendFinder site, which if successfully exploited could allow an attacker to remotely run malicious code on the web server.

But it's not known who carried out this most recent hack. When asked, Revolver denied he was behind the data breach, and instead blamed users of an underground Russian hacking site.

The number of data breaches, etc.. is getting crazy - it isn't going to be that long before somewhere really important is hacked and that data released. Just imagine if significant parts of HMRC, NHS, etc... were hacked .

I find it incredible that so many of these large sites are storing unencrypted passwords .
