Aside from the Epson range of flatbed scanners, is anyone aware of a
scanner that will handle 5 x 7 inch negatives and that is also in
current production?

No unless its another flatbed.

I have the Epson V700 and it does a good job perhaps better than the
negative/tranny quality. I am surprised by the quality and comparing it
with the Minolta Multi Scan Pro there both on par. Haven't looked been
back and used my Minolta for some time now.
