Is there a tool somewhere that will
allow overriding the absolute font
for those web articles that have
coded their html so as not to respond
to the settings chosen by ie6?

Some articles have absolute fonts so
small they strain the eyes to read them -
we need to be able to get larger fonts
with just a few keypunches or some simple
steps - any help?

IE>tools>internet options>general>accessibility, in there?

Mac's solution works. The Accessibility button is in the bottom right corner
of the General portion of the Options dialog, and checking the third box
will override absolute font sizes.

NOTE: It will also override the sizes that scale, but at least you'll be
able to change font sizes to your liking.

Hope this helps
