Large user profile

After having had some hardware problems (starting W2k messed up some boot
files because of not properly recognizing the boot disk between the one
moved from the RAID controller to the mainboard IDE-controller and the new
non-bootable one connected to the RAID onstead?) I had to change my user
name as the original profile is corrupted.

This new profile was adapted from the old one which was around 40 MB.

Now the new profile is 2.3 GB and seems excessively large.

How can I get it back to normal size?
Can I remove large files from the profile directories without running the
risk of damaging this new profile?

It would help if you gave some details about those excessively
large files. Where are they exactly, and what are their names?
