I have a spreadsheet with twowork sheets.

On the first are a number of (about 5) If statments per row with abou
300 rows.

The second has selective references to the first sheet.

This spreadsheet acts as the basis for a two page word mail merg
document with about 20 merge fields.

The spreadsheet has a size of 3.07mb which seems very large for what i
has on it.

I have now deleted everything I can see from the spreadsheet includin
all borders and colours and the size is still similar.

Does anyone have any ideas why this could be?

Thank

Thanks Andy

I only have 97 at work where I use the spreadsheet so unable to save it
in another edition.

I there any other way around it?

Excel 97 likes doing that.

If you open and save the file in Excel 2000, XP or 2003 you'll find all the
excess baggage will probably disappear.

I do not have Winzip on my PC and don't want to rely on zipping the
file.

Before I improved it (Friday) by adding more formulas it was only 500kb
but now it is 3000kb. So something must have happend to increas the
size so much.

Even with all cells empty it is still the same size.

What happens if you use Winzip on it? what size does it compress to?

Chisel,

Try this. Select the first unused row under your data (click in the row
heading). Press Ctrl-Shift-DownArrow to select all the rows from there down.
Press Ctrl-minus (or Edit-Delete) (not just the delete key). Now do the
same for the first unused column at the right of your data, using
Ctrl-Shift-RightArrow. Now save the file. Do this for each sheet. Save it
again. Check the size of the file.

Also, check for hidden sheets (Format - Sheet - Unhide).

Cheers Eric

There were no hidden sheets but the other tip reduced the siz
considerably.

One the spreadsheet grows and there are 1,000s of row of formulas
think I will come up against the same problem

Try this:

Addins
20-Bestandscompressie

(it's in Dutch but that does not matter, it works)

To top-post is human, to bottom-post and snip is sublime.
