I have a power point presentation on our church website at www.powerconnect.org. The file is large due to pictures and is slow to download for the veiwer when they look at it on 56 or lower. Any suggestions on how to make the file quicker for the veiwer to download and watch it? I am using fp2003.

Bill,

It must be a huge ppt because it took 2 minutes to dl on vdsl connection..no one's gonna be that devoted :-)

Don't know why you want to use ppt for that, a simple gallery or even a slide show would be easier and quicker and less painful. If you really wanna have the same effect (or better than the ppt) you could use Swish to produce Flash.

Other things...remove all spaces from file and image names (%20) - I also remove all capital letters too, but that's just me.

Don't use absolute postioning, it's not too well supported - you have overlapping stuff on some pages.

Use a graphics program such as Photoshop Elements to
reduce the file size of each of the pictures in
Powerpoint and then try again.

I have a 56k modem so I did not try you site. If the
above doesn't help you enough, you may want to consider
breaking the PP presentation into smaller presentations.

If you can't do that, you might want to personally spring
for DSL connections for all your church members!

Sorry...too quick on the "Post" button.

I used to have a lot of PPT's to have to post on a company intranet. I
found out by accident that saving a large PPT over-and-over increased the
file size almost every time whether you added a lot of content or not. The
"solution" a lot of times was to open the PPT file and do a Save-As, giving
it another filename. This sometimes reduced the file size dramatically!
(Same holds true for Word/Excel...)

Given that you still have a large PPT file, try saving as a Web Page from
PPT. Makes a lot of files and increases the overall number of files, but it
works quite well as HTML.
Hope this might help...

Reduce the size or have them get a faster connection.

There is nothing in FrontPage that would solve the problem.

I have to have some people move 20 tons of rock from point A to point B. It
takes a really long time. The best truck anyone has is a 1976 Datsun. Any
ideas on how to shorten the time for them? I have a rocket launcher.

For grins and giggles, I download the PPT file. It was 2.23MB. I saved it as
a .pdf file and that takes it down to 1.13MB. Still large but not *quite* as
bad.

But extremely large for 56k and lower ;-)

He'd probably be better off with JAlbum.

Yes. And to be honest - I didn't see the point of the PPT presentation in
the first place. The photos are nice but I think a few of them could have
been used on a well done page.

(You have to bear in mind that I've seen very few PPT presentations that
truly have a purpose. Most seem to be used by middle managers who have
nothing better to do.)

The images were very small, especially for a ppt that large.
