Large file size

The sizes of the photos being imported in power point on the average are 200
resolution and maybe 12 by 9 in dimension. After the photos are imported,
they are sized down to 4 by 3. However even though these are sized down,
when saved, the power point file is large because it's keeping the original
photo size information.

Can't save as a link because the power point files are moved around place to
place. Must be imported.

To get the file size down, I will open a graphics program, load the photos
and set the resolution to 100, and the dimensions to 4 by 3. Then import
into power point. This really does the trick. I just down sized a 76MB
power point file to 5.5MB.

What I would like to know is: Can power point XP do that? Or does it have
to be done the way I been doing it, using a graphics program? Don't want to
miss out on this feature if power point has it.

In PowerPoint XP ---

Select a picture on any slide
Click on
Format | Picture | Compress
Select the options you would like and
Click OK

I keep a copy of uncompressed PowerPoint file, just in case I need to
enlarge on of the pictures again, since unused resolution is discarded when
pictures are compressed.
