Hi. I'm new to this NG, was hoping to get some help with a Win2k problem
that looked familiar to me. I searched on Google and found the most relevant
notes here.

I'm running w2k-sp4 (server), ie5.5, no ".net" framework, otherwise the
latest patches from windows-update on everything. I'm running on a 1 GHz box
with 512 mb ram. 3 hard drives each 60 - 80 gb, with at least 10gb free on
each drive. When I try to copy a large file (about 6gb) from one drive to
another, I get an error message (can't copy file) "possible cause: disk
full", even though there would be 10 gb still available even after the copy.

I ran into a problem very much like this one in 8/02, after applying patch
Q316430 ("ms commerce server update"). Back then I spent a lot of time
isolating the problem, then backed out Q316430 and reported it to MS. This
time around, before I start digging again, I was wondering if anyone else
was seeing the same problem?

One other thing this time around: When I try to copy/move the file, the CPU
utilization slowly moves up to 100%, while disk i/o slows to almost nil;
then when I click ok on the error message, CPU utilization shoots up to 100%
again, while the available disk space slowly climbs back to its previous
level. It's as if the system is slowly releasing previously acquired
resources?

Has anyone else seen this? The original bug was supposed to have been fixed
in SP3. Since I was reinstalling w2k on this box, I went straight to sp4,
since it was supposed to contain sp3, etc.

Thanks for any help. It'd be much appreciated.
