I have a 200 plus document that only I have access to (security). Each time
I open the document there are spacing or tabbed entries that are not correct.
What's up with this? I am using Word 2003

The problem could be that Tools > Options > “Automatically update document
styles†has been turned on. In that case, the document styles will be
redefined from the attached template each time the document is opened.

No there's no rhyme or reason to where the changes are. My IT Dept. suggest
I retype the document as it may have been typed in a prior editon of Word
2003. This seems unlikely to me, as each time you update your system you
would need to retype it.

Is the same printer selected as the default every time you open the
document?

Yes, same printer, same computer.

I would still suspect Tools | Templates and Add-ins: "Automatically update
document styles."

Or some kind of document corruption, perhaps. Copying the contents of the
document, except for the final paragraph mark (¶), into a new document is
worth trying. (To show/hide paragraph marks as well as other nonprinting
marks, you can use Ctrl+Shift+8.)

On the xml schema the only thing checked is Validate document against
attached schemas. On templates is says Normal. Is this correct?

I have to agree: retyping doesn't make sense. Consider document corruption
(see another of my replies, posted earlier).

Ok, when I copied and pasted to a new document I still have bold print and
the text is Arial and some Times New Roman. Extra lines, underline and
spaces are added randomly.

Any other suggestions, I'm willing to try.

The document changes from the last time I opened it until the next time I
open it. It is secured with only being allowed to make changes. Changes are
happening within the server some how. All staff only open Read Only view.
