I need help some one gave me a laptop to repair
it's a dell latitude C640.

They said they were using it and they got the blue
screen of death then the lap top shut down and will
not start. If you press the start but the power light
comes one but the hard disk light does not come on.

So would it be the hard drive or cpu.

I have had a look at the cpu and there is black around the
heat sink on cpu but i have seen that on other cpu's and they
were fine.

cpu specs:

* Processor manufacturer
* Intel

* Processor type
* Pentium 4-M

* Clock speed
* 2.0 GHz

If it's the CPU, you usually get NO power at all. Do you get the
magical Dell Splash Screen? If you don't, it's not the hard drive, as
the screen will light up even with a bad one.

Could be RAM, try reseating it, then replacing it.

As pointed out, CPUs RARELY fail, unless overheated long term, they
would have had major stability problems first.

PS: here is the service manual.
