Laptop Won't Boot After Memory Upgrade

I have a HP Pavilion ze4904us Laptop with only 256 mb RAM that runs on
Windows XP Home with SP3. Recently when my printer stopped working, I found
that new printers were not compatable unless I upgraded my RAM memory. I
performed the scan at Crucial and another 256 mb (PC2700 DDR) module was one
of the recommendations. I reconfirmed with the HP website that I had 2 ports(
one had an existing 256 mb HP Module and the other was empty). So I ordered
the recommended 256 mb Memory Module. I watched the installation video and
the steps in my HP user's manual. After following the steps for removing the
battery, discharging any extra power, and making sure to ground myself, I
installed the memory module in the empty slot. Reinstalled the battery, and
tried to start the computer. The power light comes on, and the harddrive
light comes on once and then goes out. There is no attempt to boot up and the
screen stays black. I removed the new memory module and tried again. No luck.
I removed the old memory module and tried the new one in it's place. No luck.
I removed the harddrive and reinstalled. Nothing. By the way this is a new
Seagate 80 GB harddrive as of Jan. 09. By pushing the F2 key at start up I
did get a screen that gave me some options such as booting from LAN or Setup,
but I didn't want to do something that may make it worse. I also tried my
recovery disk but it didn't boot up. I need suggestions as to where to go
from here. Or is my laptop Toast.

Try going into BIOS on boot up. Check your manual for instructions how
(probably the Delete key). See if the HDD and/or the memory is detected
there. If so, save and exit.
Make sure you have nothing else plugged in when booting up; i.e., no
printer, no external keyboard or mouse, no external drives or USB pen
drives.

Changing moniker does not help you. You are a complete nutcase. The OP's post has
everything to do with XP HARDWARE if you read the name of the newsgroup correctly.
Go away and Go get a life and stop posting the same thing over and over again all
the time

Why ask and whine here? This has nothing to do with the OS. Notice

Your question is entirely welcome in this *Hardware* newsgroup.

Thanks Tom for your reply. I will try what you suggested. As for the other
replies. If I posted innapropriately then I apologize. I have not changed my
user name or posted this question before. I have always found answers on
other issues by searching previous answers.

Sorry about my previous post Peter. I thought you were also refering to my
post being innapproprite like the other guy. Thanks for defending my post.

Just for an update, and in case it helps someone else in the future. I went
into the BIOS using the Delete Key upon powering up the laptop and saw that
the memory was registered. So I did as suggested and used the Save & Exit
choice. The Computer went into it's normal Windows XP startup. I haven't used
it much since, but everything seems fine. Thanks so much for the great advice.
