Hey!

The joys of computers eh...

Heres my problem. Im using a laptop running WinXP Home
Edition and basically it keeps switching off
unexpectadly. Ive put it down to a hardware fault but
just want some more opinions before i send it in for
repairs (again!) It doesnt go through the shutdown
process, it literally switches off, as though someone has
pulled the plug! Strange and VERY frustrating!

Can anyone help? Thanks,

Matt

bad battery monitor or bad battery?
Are you sure it is turning off or just turning the display
off or a blank screensaver.

No without trying to sound insulting I'd know if that was
the case. It does it regardless of whether the battery
is in or not. Its not a screensaver or display turning
off, its the whole unit.

Not trying to insult anybody either, that was just a
possible set of issues to eliminate.

We once had a TV that would run just fine for a few hours
and then die. We'd take it to service and they'd turn it on
a few minutes, ignoring the trouble report of "after a few
hours." After demanding to talk to a real technician at the
warranty station (Sears, Tulsa OK mid 1970's) they actually
plugged it in and ran it till it failed. Then they found a
cracked PCB that would expand breaking the circuit. Some
JBWeld on the board to fix the crack and some solder on the
trace fixed the TV for about 20 years.

It could be something similar, I suggest you demand a renew
computer.

I would start it on "safe mode" and if keeps up longer
than usual, I will attack the drivers. Have you windows-
updated latelly ?
Good luck
