Thank you!

I can reinstall XP (actually have installed many times), but HD sometimes
spin for minutes before resuming.

Scandisk and repair utilities seem working, but then similar error messages
come up.

I give up, and puschase a new HD.

I have read these replies but they do not help me. I am not that good with
computors.

I have the 0x000000ED error code. I can't get anything to change. It always
ends up on this blue screen everytime I start it up.

Does anyone out there have the patience to deal with this for me in a step
by step process??????????

I would GREATLY appreciate it.

Thanks.

For a start if you Google 0x000000ED you will get a lot of suggestions
and possible reasons. Start there and see if anything clicks. I wouldn't
be able to take you step by step though.

Unfortunately, as one of the main causes of this is physical drive failure,
the step by step starts with:

1) taking the laptop to someone qualified for service
2) Have the service people intall another hard disk and re-install XP and
all your apps to that
3) Try to attach the old drive to the system with a USB connector.
4) if you can't read the old drive, and must recover its contents, contact a
data recovery agency. Do not poke at the drive yourself, you will make it
worse.

Data revovery can frequently cost upwards of $1,000. The highest I have
seen for a laptop drive is $5,000.

For reference, I recently bought 80-gig laptop drives for around CDN$80.
