I recently bought a laptop with Vista Home Premium installed. I'm
anticipating a trip and will be keeping business files on the laptop that I
would like to secure (I also will be connecting to public networks.

What is the best way to secure the laptop's data from physical AND the
public networks?

Thanks!

1. Click the blue Start button and then click "Help and Support".
2. Type the word SECURITY in the search box, hit enter.
3. Then click on "Understanding security and safe computing".

Hi,
TRUE CRYPT cannot run in VISTA, for now. Not even DRIVECRYPT from
securstar...(best one)
BITLOCKER seems nice but depends on VISTA'S version to be availiable.
PUBLIC networks can indeed represent danger to your files, so a better set
of firewall rules is a major concern.
Modify your public firewall set of rules(in administrative tools) to BLOCK
ALL in and out network, then manually allow new rules for each program
intended to be used in this situation.

Forgive my english...It's the lack of use...

Thanks. However, I'm already familiar with the basic stuff. My concern is
more directed toward data security and keeping people on wireless public
networks from accessing my system, as my OP indicated.
