This seems to be the only group to ask this question in.

Do laptops and desktops use the same, physical size, RAM?

If a desktop and laptop both require SDRAM, PC-133, non-parity, 133 mHz,
3.3v, 8ns........Will the module fit in both machines?

No, not even close. A RAM module for a laptop will be about 1/3 of the
physical size of a RAM module designed for a desktop PC.

No.

The description of RAM I gave is what crucial says the laptop uses.

It's a Toshiba Satellite 1695. When I get back to that system I'll check to
see if I read it right.

The full description on the crucial site includes this 144 pin SODIMM. Very
few if any desktop motherboards use this form factor for ram. The other
specifications may be the same but the form factor is different. The ram
will not fit in the sockets. It is physically a different size. See these
links:

Some all-in-ones use SODIMMS. Some imacs, and ot least one model of
Gateway i've seen use them (it was a k6-2 400).

<snip>

Exactly my point. SODIMMS are rarely used for desktop computers.

Thanks everybody for your help. I wasn't aware of the "SO" designation but
now I think I have the right stuff ordered.
