Laptop Printers

There is a dearth of printers for laptops.

I mean, suppose you are on a trip and would like to print out some
documents or mapquest maps or anything. There are no small, portable,
perhaps battery operated printers that might be carried in the laptop
case or bag. One that I found was $250 and not really small enough to
pack in the laptop case.

Any ideas?

The type of printer you are talking about is similar to those used in point
of sale terminals.
Unfortunately, they never were really popular enough in the laptop market,
due to limitations and cost.
I guess you will need to get a bigger case.

You raise a good point. There was a time when there were a number of
small battery operated printers (inkjet, thermal) which were designed
for portability. I even recall some early laptops with built in impact
or thermal printers. I don't know why the demand didn't progress this
concept. I think Canon still makes one and HP might as well.

I think wireless and bluetooth, and Kinkos and the like has somewhat
changed the emphasis.

you're probably referring to the HP Deskjet 460cb mobile printer
<http://tinyurl.com/yoynxw>, which replaced the HP DJ450cbi. it
supports wifi, bluetooth and will run on a battery. would be ideal
for travelers if it wasn't for the cost. we travel by RV 6-months a
year and find ourselves having to print something every now and then.
hard to justify $300+ (when you add all the options) to print a few
sheets now and then. when we need something printed i'll save it as a
PDF onto a blank CD and then run it up to the campground office, a
local library or, failing all else, some commercial place that will
print it for us ($).
