I just got my computer and for some reason when i shut the laptop after using
it and then open it back up again the screen will not come back on and when i
shut it off and restarted it there was a error saying that i had shut down
the computer in a wrong manner how can i get the screen to come up after
shutting it closed?

There are slight differences between brands and models (of which you
failed to mention either of in your request).

You might have a malfunction, a bad driver or you could just be (not)
doing something upon opening the cover.
Settings on laptops sometimes apply INDEPENDETLY depending on POWER
source.
My Toshiba allows me to set "Ignore close cover" while on AC mains
(using as desktop computer with external monitor/keyboard).
It Hibernates when on battery when the cover closes.
It resumes when I open the lid and press the power button (and enter
password).
 
This has also happened to me on occasion and I think it's one of the many
bugs in the OS. The way I fix it without shutting down:
I put my laptop to sleep with the keyboard keys (on mine Fn and F5) and then
it will wake up with the monitor on when I press any key.
