Laptop Monitor Problem

Hi there guys hopefully someone can help me on this, a friend has broke the screen on his laptop and i told him he could plug his monitor into it, when he does and switches the laptop on the screen on the monitor starts up at the start but as soon as the windows vista boot screen dissapears the monitor loses it's signal obviously the windows settings are saying use the laptop monitor not the external one, the problem is because it changes as soon as windows has loaded i dont have chance to change the settings, any ideas??

Also on another PC also with vista someone else i know has forgot there user password is it possible to recover the password?

Hi Lee - does the laptop have a switch output button? It's usually something like FN + F5 and it will toggle the output display
