I know this isn't the right gtoup for laptop questions (can you
recommend a good group?) but maybe tou can help with this.

I have a Dell Studio 1737 laptop. Several times, the display has
failed to turn on when the computer booted up. When I attached an
external monitor, I was able to determine that the computer did boot
properly and was fully functional accept for the display. After
dseveral attempts to reboot, the display would work normally (even
brightness). The Dell self test (pressing fn when turning on) did not
show any errors. Opening and closing the LCD did not cause the problem
to reoccur. What could be causing this? Is the inverter going bad?

I recently started having trouble with the inverter or backlight on a
Dell D600. It seems to work if I keep the brightness low but would go
black at the original brightness setting.
