I have two Toshiba tecra laptops running Windows XP with
SP1 and all the latest updates installed. In the last few
weeks they have started to shut themselves down for no
apparent reason.
I've gone through the event logs and nothing shows up,
device manager is all clear, i've even updated the bios in
these systems but still no joy.
There is no real pattern to it, and i have checked that
they are not hitting the power button by accident.
Any ideas or suggestions ? Anyone know of any applications
that can test for faulty hardware ?

What kind of batteries, how old, how many recharge cycles?
Do they shutdown if the external power is connected?

How old are the batteries, what type, how many cycles? Do
they shutdown if the external power is connected?

Batteries are less than 2 months old. THis can happen
while they are still conected to the mains power so i've
ruled out battery problems.
Cheers for that though.
