Hello,
I have reported in the past that my laptop is running very hot and also that
it cut offs without warning (i.e., I am working and suddenly I have a black
screen). I had the opportunity to use my son-in-laws Dell this weekend
(looked like the same model) and confirmed that mine is abnormally hot. I
have to put a blanket between it and my jeans if I put it on my lap. This
along with the black outs concerns me. Please advise what can be done.

One tip... laptop does not mean for use on a lap. You should never operate
the laptop on any soft surface that will block heat dissipation. A solid
object is best... table, TV tray, large trivet, etc.

That's not to say you don't have a problem machine. Just FYI...

Oh... also... sometimes a bad battery can cause excess heat (even if plugged
in to AC). You might want to try your laptop with your son-in-law's battery.

Is the fan running? The fan may be bad, or clogged with dust. Use canned air
to clean dust out, with the laptop off.

Thank you all. Finally, it's worked.
