I've been given a Toshiba S4010CDS/4.0 Laptop that works.
I'm hoping to buy a Network Card for it, but which type? Will it be 16 or 32bit??
And then connect it up to the Farms network.
No manual:( Seems the last owner (Murdoch) binned it!!

Nice doorstop, unusual talking point, "why is that laptop on the floor by the door" ... breaks the ice at a party. I think they start @ 20 euros on ebay, probably why Murdoch binned it. :D

So, what OS have you got on it, 95/98 ? ;)

Well it's old, but works & the battery when charged last's for 2 hours!
It came to be with 98SE & Windows 2000Pro on it & both genuine!!
It has a massive amount of Memory, all 96 of it!
But, can use it for the odd bit of work.
Did look at Maplin for a network card but not sure what to look for.:o

Nor do I, and I ain't to fussed to look, but have you tried Toshiba ... they may have some info hiding somewhere.

If it has a USB port you could get a small USB network stick, although a PCMCIA card would be better.

Thanks Muckshifter, but seems the Toshiba website does not go back to the model i have.
However it seems the previous owner forgot about the Manual sitting in 'My Documents' which states the following:

"The computer is equipped with a PC card (PCMCIA) expansion slot that can accommodate two 5mm Type II cards or one 10.5 mm Type III card. Any PC card that meets industry standards (manufactured by Toshiba or other vendor) can be installed. The slots support 16-bit PC cards, including PC Card 16's multifunction card and CardBus PC cards.

CardBus supports the new standard of 32-bit PC Cards. The bus provides superior performance for the greater demands of multimedia data transmission."

So will a 32bit card work?

It sounds like it from what you've written, as it supports CardBus :)

It's a computer ... Install XP or Vista, it should work ... no ? ;)

Sorry exmoor, all I will say is ... the word "compatibility" does not exist.

With something that old, I have no intention of saying yes. :p
