My Sony Vaio hard disk is constantly being accessed every few seconds even
with no application programs running. I have looked in task manager and
processes and cannot find anything which would do this. I am not on line,
McAfee is not scanning, XP defrag is not running. No screen saver is
active.

Are there any other checks I can do?

The Indexing Service comes to mind.

| Just to clarify, Jim means that the Indexing service is a possible
| culprit, not that it's "another check you can do".

My indexing service is set to disabled as it is on my desktop which does not
have the repeated hard disk access.
