Laptop hangs every 1 or 2 hours

Hi All,

For some reason my laptop (Dell with WinXP Pro) crashes every hour or
two, and I'm at a loss to understand why. I'm current with all
critical and recommended windows updates.

Can anyone give me some advice on how I go about diagnosing which app
is causing the problem? Currently it doesn't seem to be any one
repeatable app active when the laptio first hangs.

Essentially, the symptoms are that the laptop will slow down to a
complete crawl or simply hang. Alt-tab will still allow me to cycle
through the icons of the open apps but none of the apps themselves
will respond when alt-tabbed to. The only exception is if I have a dos
window open, which will always display when alt-tabbed to and will
respond to dos commands as expected.

Any help will be immensely appreciated!

Much warmth,

Murray

Hi M Wells,

It sounds like an overheating problem. If you are using a Pentium4-m or the new Pentium-M, they will both throttle down the CPU
if it get to hot. I would check to see if Dell has a monitor program on their web site for your machine to see how much heat
your generating.

Ciao . . .
