Laptop Display Problem while booting up

I have a Dell Latitude 840C, running XP Pro with SP1a. For about a month now every time I have to reboot my laptop the display on the laptop is blank, like there is an external monitor attached. After fooling around with the function keys for the display settings (CRT/LCD, Font, and brightness) for a few minutes the display is corrected on the LCD. Any time something happens with the display setting, like toggling to a full screen command prompt or remote software reducing the host screen, the same thing happens. Has anyone else had this issue? Thanks in advance for any advice.

You should upgrade your BIOS.... I have this laptop and had a similar issue
with mine until I upgraded my BIOS.
You should be able to get the updated BIOS from Dell's website. It will be
under "flash BIOS updates"...
Let me know if this works for you....
