I am a consultant who is currently located on a client site. The
clients have provided me a desktop computer running Windows 2000 that
is part of a Novell domain. My laptop (which also runs Windows 2000)
is not part of that domain, nor would I want it to be part of it.
However, I would like to share files between the laptop and the
desktop, and possibly use Visual Source Safe between them. How can
this be done?

If the desktop is running TCP/IP, make sure that NetBIOS is enabled. If
your laptop is joined to a domain, do not log on with cached domain
credentials - log on to the local machine. You should then be able to share
files.

If the destop is running only IPX/SPX, you will have to install this
protocol on the laptop. Again make sure that NetBIOS is enabled on the
desktop.

Don't know about Visual Source Safe.

Thanks for the information. Is there any way that the laptop and the
desktop machine can share files without the laptop becoming part of
the domain? Joining the clients' domain could cause potential
security and political issues.
