hi my hp laptop keeps crashing when in windows

I think it might be overheating never had this problem before
I could be surfing the net and then everything stops and then I have to take out battery and put it back on.

What can I do to investigate the cause?

It is called HP DV2000

From memory in the past a long time ago I seen the CPU temp around 60 C

But the strange thing it has only recently started to happen as when I first had the laptop I used to use it for 16 hours non stop like. But now I use it for 20 minutes and it freezes!

Probably got full of dust overtime, i think MadX had a thread about taking laptops apart and cleaning them, will have a look for it.

Hi psd99,

That temp is about normal for laptops I have seen laptops go upto 80 C before and worked fine, I would also argree with WF that this could be down to overheating, useually under the laptop there is a door that has about 8 screws if I can remember correctly. You might also need to remove the one under the silver sticker. Then the door should left off and you can blow the dust out with a can of air or something like that, also I would give everything a blast with some air as will just to make sure that its all fine inside and there is no build up of dust. If you can it might be worth downloading the manual for the laptop as that will teel you exatclty what to do.

Hope this helps.

get the hoover on the vents buddy. ;)

Hi guys,

Thanks I will get the Dyson out on the air vents of the laptop. I don't like the idea of opening it up. I
don't have much experience with opening laptops.

:(

Well I put the Dyson on the air vents and had the laptop on for 20 minutes last night no problems at all.

I guess an hour straight on it will be a better test. Thanks.
