Hello --

Can anyone recommend sources for information on building a laptop, from
scratch or from a "barebook" model?

Thanks for any help.

This is probably not the answer you were looking for.

Why do you want to build a notebook/laptop computer? I have a
feeling you won't be saving any money. I think that laptop parts are
mostly proprietary, so there is little if any competition. That
might be an overstatement, but even desktop personal computer parts
are not cheap compared to prebuilt systems. As a rule, piece by
piece versus prefabricated product costs are surprisingly high, in
my experience.

Good luck though. Maybe others here will know something specific
about the subject (it's late here in the United States).

Maximum PC just released a new special issue magazine named

Build The Perfect PC

It has an article on building a laptop. I wasn't interested myself. so
I didn't read it, but they usually do a good job covering things.

I was just going to suggest that Maximum PC article. You can probably get a
back issue sent to you,but first check thier website and see if it's there.
It was pretty cool. They were able to build it pretty much the way they
wanted to. I don't remeber if it saved money that way. Pretty sure they
listed all companies they found the sell laptop components.Good luck.

The issue is on the newsstands now. I bought a copy at Walmart a
couple days ago and I saw it today at another local magazine store.
I believe they put out a new issue with that title yearly.
