Laptop £600 - £700

Too be honest I would not touch a celeron, or any Acer (have you read the Acer feedback forum)...The Sony is to underpowered to even contemplate buying, and for the money have another look around you could do so much better....;)

Sorry to say ... but if your need is to be mobile & only do office work, then fine ... however, if your need is more than that, then you will have to up your budget to at least £1000

;)

If you want to be entertained you have to pay for it as mucks said, but, if you are doing serious office work and email/internet your budget is OK. By the way £1000 is a good amout of money but do not expect miracles from your laptop at that price as even the best laptop you buy cannot compete with a good desktop if you want to have fun all the way.

One also needs to pay for reliability and support, IBM has a very clean record when it comes to reliability and support. However, within your budget the IBM will not entertain you, it will however serve the purpose of serious computing.

Let us know your needs and we can guide you better.

I was just looking at what laptops I could get for around that price. I'm going to build a desktop for that price anyways.

I am not suggesting you buy IBM but it would not hurt if you took a good look at these options

Any laptop you buy make sure it is bundled with XP Professional and not XP Home.

Some offer bells and wistles but under the hood the processing power is not there, make sure the L2 cache is 2 MB, not a Celeron processor.

Hope you make the right choice for yourself! :)
