I think I would be "selective" in what you move from the old machine to the
new one. If all you are moving is personal data (Email, word processing
files, spreadsheets, databases, etc), then there is no need to move any
XP Pro files or other program files to the new machine. They will be
useless on the new one.
Vista has a great program called Easy Transfer that you should try. All
you
need is a connection of some kind (network, wire-to-wire). Here is what
Vista Help and Support has to say about it.....
"Windows Easy Transfer guides you through the process of transferring files
and settings from one Windows computer to another. Using Windows Easy
Transfer, you can choose what to transfer to your new computer and how to
transfer it. "

What are the problems I will have and how do uninstall winXP from the new
machine?
TIA
Thanks Tom,
Trouble I have is that I need to transfer loads of programs which are
download only and really don't want the hassle of sorting out license
numbers and so on for each program to reinstall it on the new one.
Does the Vista Transfer allow program as well as data transfer?
TIA
