Server service is missing. Can't turn on File Sharing.

Can't seem to get sfc.exe /scannow to work because WinXP
Home doesn't recognize the Compaq QuickRestore CD as the
right CD.

Any ideas how to restore the service to get file sharing
working again? Running XP home.

Thanks.

Contact Compaq for help with this. Maybe the installation files are
somewhere on the HDD and you have to point SFC to that location.

Fixed it. Here's the solution for someone else:

I ran the Network Setup Wizard from the
Accessories\Communications program group on the Start
menu. The wizard, when run from scratch reinstalled the
lanmanserver service without requiring any installation
CD.

Before the fix, I did call Compaq. They said they would
send me a replacement WinXP Home installation media CD
for $10 to $12 that would work with sfc.exe.
