The language script in Internet Explorer 6 is changed into "cyrillic". I've
tryed to change it into "latin-based", but every time when I turn back to
control it, it is again "cyrillic". That means that several signs on
web-pages are Russian-like and very unusefull to read. My windowsversion is
XP. Can anyone tell me what I have to do? Thanks!

Hi Skipp :-)

You don't mention the version of Windows you are using, but, try the
following and see if it helps:

Make sure that Auto-select at the top of the Encoding box in View is not
checked

The problem may be due to a 3rd party plug-in or toolbar is affecting the
functionality of Internet Explorer in the area of national texts typing. If
you have any of these, such as Google or Yahoo Toolbar, disable them, or if
you have Yahoo Companion uninstall it.

Then go to IE>Tools>Internet Options>General>Accessibility
Make sure none of the boxes there are checked if not needed.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

No, the question was not about typing problem (by the way 'bad
influence plugins' are being collected here:
http://RusWin.net/IEinput.htm ) - the question was
about first option seen in Tools/Options/Fonts - whic has really
nothing to do with the problems - I think, you were right stating that
"Auto-select" encoding is the cause -
he should UNcheck it to get rid of
....... several signs on

Yes...I do agree, and thank you very much for the link and confirmation of
these differences between the "language" and the "fonts".

It is often hard for some folks to explain exactly what it is that they see
and then how to explain it properly because they really don't
understand...."is it maybe the text fonts I selected, the language fonts, or
maybe some kind of other unknown that is causing the problem?"

Another observation is that there are various settings regarding the subject
of text. Fonts and language in different places that it is sometimes
confusing for the novice user to know which ones affect what where. Such as
"What is Encoding, and how does it affect my Fonts or language?" And, there
are those whose first language is not English, thus, it is often more
difficult for them to know, or use, the correct terms for what they are
trying to explain, in English. It is sometimes just a matter of guiding them
through a few steps until we can find out exactly what it is they are trying
to explain...language or text (fonts).

Thank you again for the explanation, and I have the list to your website, as
there are often such posts regarding various problems with languages. You
were very kind to provide your very helpful input in regards to a problem
with Chinese a thread some time back for me and the OP. I still have that in
my Language resource file as well. :-)
