I am trying to change the language in a workbook from
Japanese to English. How can this be done?

Hello David,

What exactly do you mean?

It's like this, I think: Excel formulas differ between languages, as the
names of the same Excel-functions have been translated in different language
versions of Excel in order to be comprehensible to users. Some language
versions use comma's for separators, others use semicolons. But all these
things should automatically be converted on openening a workbook, as the
functionality they refer to is essentially untouched by the nationalization
or translation of the Excel version.
That would mean that, if you open a workbook made on a computer with french
language settings and french Excel, the formulas should convert to english
on an english pc with english excel.

I believe some formulas cannot be converted, e.g when they are protected.

The quality of conversion may depend on your Excel version.

Macro's shouldn't present a problem, as macro commands - or the VBA
language - have no language versions.

Japanese may present additional problems because of font, codepage or
direction (right-to-left) issues.

If there is Japanese text in the spreadsheet, you may need to translate this
the traditional way, I'm afraid.

Does any of this make sense, or is your problem of another nature?

Have a super day.
