Discusses the shortcomings of Partition Magic and DriveImage, both,
then offers alternatives.
No need to obfuscate. Partition Magic is mentioned only three times,
each time in a quote from an earlier column or letter from a reader. His
headings:
2) Drive Imaging
3) PQ's Drive Image, Old And New
4) DI7 Problems
5) A Welcome Alternative To DI
6) Bootit NG's Best Points
7) Bootit NG's Weaknesses
8) Another Alternative: Acronis
His interest is drive/partition imaging here, and it so happens that the
program he's plugging also includes a partition manager.
As for Langa's reliability--he knows what he's talking about, but he's an
individual with his own tics and prejudices. For example he always plugs
Winzip, which seems unconscionable given the wealth of free alternatives.
But he's someone for whom the line between maintaining a pc and using it
has dissolved, so he has not particular attraction to freeware--software
utilties fascinate him, so he doesn't mind paying for something that
makes him happy. But when he pans a program (e.g. Norton Personal
Firewall), it's probably a good sign that it's not worth using.
