I as a little boy was taken to Hawkinge airfield on Battle Of Britain Day must have been 1950/1 and they were not celebrating it as it at that time was not a fighter station and only one aircraft which was a Wellington bomber which was employed to tow a sock so that the coastal ack ack guns could have target practice. Any way as I disappointed at them not celebrating Battle of Britain day the pilot and a couple of the crew said I could go and play tail end Charlie. I can remember being shut in the rear turret after being shown how to turn left and right and they took off and we had a flight along the coast and back a flight of about 20 min this was fantastic for a little boy of about 5 or six. I cannot that happening now
