Hi all,
We have just wired cat5 cable throughout the house in order to set up a
LAN. We decided to use a crossover cat5 cable to connect the two
computers and I have ran into a jam. I set the network up on both XP
machines using NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller. On the host
machine (IP 192.168.0.1/255.255.255.0), I am able to ping the client.
On the client end (IP 192.168.0.196/255.255.255.0 Gateway
192.168.0.1), I am unable to ping the host. Both computers have the
same workgroup name. I can see both computers on my network places on
the host computer, but I am unable to even gain access to the workgroup
on the client end. I get the following error:
\\<name> is not accesible. You might not have permission to use this
network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out
if you have access permission.
The network path was not found.
I get the same error when attempting to access the client computer
(though I can ping and see the computer in my workgroup).
Also of note, I get a green active link light on the client computer,
but the host has no light. Both have orange (100MBS) transmission
lights.
Of final note, McAffee firewall is on client, zone alarm is on host...
I setup both up to allow access to each computer. Maybe I missed a
step?
Could anyone provide a bit of assistance? Thanks!
