LAN Speeds

I recently began using Remote Desktop to run an
application at my main office in Atlanta over the company
LAN. The application runs very slowly, and prints even
slower, sometimes taking as long as 10 minutes to print.
How can I check to see EXACTLY what my connection speed
is between the workstation and the server in Atlanta?
The Icon in the system tray claims 10MBPS, but that can't
be right. Please help. My local workstations are
running WIN XP Pro.

Well, I can't seem to remember a good, automatic way to
do it... but anyway, you can double click your LAN
connection icon, and you can see the individual packets
and bytes being sent and recieved... you can count them
(Gasp, manually) to get a general idea of exactly how
fast its going.
But, knowing how slow its going won't speed it up, will
it? :-)
Therefore, I suggest you open the
options/preferences/settings panel of your remote desktop
stuff, and disable all the options that will 'slow' it
down, like displaying the wallpaper.
(We had major network lag in one of the High Schools in
our district because every user, student and teacher, was
using wallpaper!)
