I have 2 computers that connect directly to the internet through the same
hub. I tried to set up a link between the computers to share files, etc.,
and a message came up that people on the internet could gain access to the
computer if I did that.

Is there a way to do this so that only the other computer has access,
(without making the other computer use this one to access the internet)?

Thanks.

Get rid of the hub and get a router.

The easy solution: Get a router. Unless you have a good reason for
having public IP adresses on both computers, this is what you should
do. That will establish a LAN segment within which you can share files
without being exposed.

I should have mentioned that the switching/hub is connected to a router
(dsl). Does that make any difference?
