Hi All,
Installed SWEEX adsl modem + 4 port router according to instructions. packets are being transmitted / received but cannot access Internet or mail without reverting to original adsl external modem. Ipconfig all ok and router config 10.0.0.2 appeared ok.
Help please

You need to give the Router your Password and Username for your ISP.

Go back into 10.0.0.2 and have another look for the password, userename section. :)

Who is the ISP?

Hi,
Printed checklist for router config from link provided. Some info not there so rang Tiscali who went through whole setup with me and pinged the router ok. He told me to check Ipconfig , the Default Gateway address is missing. Have emailed SWEEX and got a 'holding' answer mostly in Dutch to the effect they are looking into it. Scan International are willing to replace the router but I am not sure it is a fault (and neither are they). Had to revert to adsl modem to send this.
Thanks for your help so far.

Hello,
Many emails to and from manufacturer, calls to ISP (wait for the phone bill). SWEEX adsl modem/ router sends and receives but will not connect to the Internet. Router config seems ok and username/password ok.
Will send it back and get a better one. Have seen a US Robotics adsl /Modem/router/4 port switch /vpn/firewall/dhcp for about £20 more from the same supplier, perhaps they will do a deal.

oops, its busted ...

I have "Trust" 4 port ADSL Router ... cost £24 ;)

I don't like "Trust" as a brand, but I took it off my brother anyway as I needed something ... it works fine.

:)

Thanks Muckshifter,
The replies from SWEEX are confusing due to the translation from Dutch to English when ,of course, it has to be spot on in the router config - the problem is definately in there. The router was about £25.
I will ask the suppliers for an exchange for something where the customer services is in UK.
Cheers

Hello,
The dreaded SWEEKS router is working! They emailed back telling me to check for IP address in WAN status in the router config. It was there after another router reboot, but could not get online. Deleted adsl dial-up as previously advised by ISP and Internet Explorer lit up. Still got dial-up icon (blank) on Outlook Express so went back to ISP. They advised deleting all Internet accounts and set up a new one. Did this and all is well.
Sorry to go on, but there is no mention of any of this in the manual. Is all of this obvious to other members?
However if it had worked first time I would have learnt nothing!
Thanks for your help,

Hello,
By the way, cannot fault Tiscali technical helpline in India. They are unfailingly polite, enthusiastic and know their stuff. I find the accents no problem as I am a Welsh-speaker.
Cheers,

Yep, sorry to say but that is a trate with anything Windows ... delete-uninstall-reinstall ... and that goes for Windows itself.

Glad you got it going in the end.

Thanks for that, I thought it was just me!
Have connected old pc but cannot access Internet Explorer - message is MFC4DLL file not found. This pc was given away and then returned so I have no idea what may have happened. Any clues? LAN is working.

That one is easy ... some crappy Installer overwrote the Windows .dll ... the 'fix' may be as simple as runing "scanreg /restore" but that ain't available for XP ... try a early restore point.

Try Firefox ... :D

Hi
This is oldest pc with 98. How do you get a command line in 98? I'm still waiting for my 98 discss to be returned to replace xp on the better pc.
Thanks

Hello,
I can send emails on two pcs connected to my router, but only receive on one. The second shows a socket error, cannot find incoming server. All very reasonable. But how does my Tiscali monthly bill apear on both with exactly the same date and time.

Thanks Muckshifter,
Downloaded a registry fixer that found loads of errors (200+). I am in deep water here! One fix was offered free and solved the problem with Internet Explorer. Is it worth paying for the other errors to be fixed? I was able to connect with Launch Internet Explorer, but it was very slow. The new fix has Internet Explorer working very quickly.

Depends on who your going to pay ... I only charge £30 for the first hour, that covers free callout to my local area, then £20 an hour thereafter. ;)

If this PC does not have any important data on it then do a clean install of 98 ... that usually "fixes" everything. :D
