LAN Connections Continuously Dropped after installing ADSL Modem Driver

Hello,

I'd appreciate any help with this networking problem that
has stumped me for the last six months.

I am unable to establish a LAN connection ever since I
installed an PPPoE driver that was incompatible with
Windows XP. I have attempted to remove the PPPoE driver,
remove and reinstall the NIC drivers, reinstall Windows XP
with no success. Running the hardware test tool that
comes with my NIC indicates that the hardware is working
fine and there are no conflicts shown in the device
manager. I have attempted to connect multiple LAN devices
including multiple ADSL modems, routers, etc. with no
success. I've also attempted to install the latest NIC
drivers from Broadcom and any patches/ updates that seemed
relevant from Microsoft.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. At this point,
the only thing that I can think of is to wipe out my HD
and do a clean install.

My setup is as follows:
-Dell Inspiron 5100
-Broadcom 440x NIC
-Windows XP
-The PPPoE driver was Enternet (can't remember the version)

Regards,
Erick Vandeweghe

I will be watching your thread for the correct answer; however, does your LAN use TCP/IP or NETBEUI? I am having a problem installing a new XP computer into a LAN that was already setup to use NETBEUI locally and TCP/IP for internet via a DLink router and DSL modem. The previous computers, Win98, work fine and see each other. The new one will not go online and does not see the other computers, even after I discovered how to add NETBEUI to the XP system. If I find the answer in my research here, I will let you know.

Hello,

Try to set up NIC speed and router port at one value
firmly, f.e. 10 Full Duplex or 100 Full Duplex.

Mary,

I'm using TCP/IP as the protocol.

I've also tried to fix the LAN speed at various settings
on both the router and the NIC with no luck.

Any other suggestions?

Many thanks,
-Erick
