I have a simple home office LAN Workgroup with three WIN
XP computers linked to a HUB. There is no internet
connection to the HUB. All the hardware and LAN settings
worked great until one of the machines crashed bigtime and
I had to 'Nuke & Pave' it. I re-installed XP and
everything is back Except, I cannot get this computer to
link back up to the LAN Workgroup. When I try to access
files in the file explorer I get the following Error
Messages:

(The broke computer)
"Llama (my workgroup) is not accessible. You might not
have permission to use this network resource. The list of
servers for the workgroup is not currentily available"

(The other working computers)
"\\Amd-1700a is not accessible. You might not have
permission to use this network resource. Contact the
Administrator. The network path was not found."

(Error message from Floppy Netsetup.exe)
ERROR: WIN32 Cabinet Self Extractor Netver: 6.0.2448.0

This error just started? No idea why but I don't believe
I should even need to use a Netsetup floppy to get the LAN
setup?

Hardware: All the hardware items seem to be working (Net
card, cables, drivers, HUB). These items checked good now
and were working fine before the crash. The other two
computer still work fine.

Network Connection Settings: I've checked and re-checked
all the 'LAN', 'Administration', and the 'My Computer-
Manager' Settings a zillion times. Uninstalled and re-
installed all the Service/Protacols features.
The 'Computer Browser Network was 'Started'. I set all
file and printer sharing correctily, all the basic regular
stuff is good. I also tried renamed the Workgroup, did
the floppy Netsetup.exe and re-booted lots. Nadda!

MS Knowledge Base: I checked the MSKB and found Article
#318030. It looked like the answer so I tried it and like
magic it worked...I could share files etc).... for about
10 minutes. OK by now I'm really bummed so I try the fix
again (set Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP + Start Computer
Broswser) re-boot and try again. DOA???

OK by now I'm sure you've read enough and figure this guy
has screwed up his machine and will never get it back on
line. Perhaps, but I am persistant in this work and know
someone, somewhere has had a similar problem and just may
read this and have the bit of info I don't. I'm not about
to pay the MS guys $245/hour to try to fix my computer so
please jump in and help a guy lost in LAN land.....

Just thought I'd reply to my own problem, because I
actually got it fixed.

I decided to go for a fully 'open box' surgery and it
payed off. I uninstalled all the firewall software,
uninstalled all the netware services and protocols, shut
down the box and pulled the modem and EtherNet cards.
Rebooted and got an error message "Can't
find C:\;lkj;lkj\asdfdf\qwetr\Temp\Blabla". My guess is
this file was something imbeded in my registry settings
or akin for the Internet\Network Group stuff? Windows
came back and I shut it down again, put the EitherNet card
back fired up and re-installed the 'Set up a Network"
stuff off the WinXP disk. Rebooted and bingo the SOB
finally worked..... Repeated the process with the Modem
card and got both the LAN and Internet back. After so many
hours trying to 'patch' the problem I learn, actually
relearned the ultimate Lesson: Don't keep ramming the wall
with your head, take the bricks down piece by piece.
Or better yet, walk around the wall and install a better
platform - LINUX?? Hope this can help some other poor
soul that is lost in "NetLand"
