hi, i am currently running windows xp professional with wireless lan...the computer can be used with the lan cable or wireless, however a few days ago the lan cable has stopped working and when i go to connections, only the wireless connection shows up. the cable connection has totally disappeared...any suggestions or solutions as how to get the lan cable connection to show up? thanks.

Hi Stu,

Check to see if it listed here: Start/Run/Regedit

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Network\.....

I have never seen it completely disappear, disabled with a red X via the
Notification Area but not totally gone via Network Places. What you could
try is going into the Device Manager and deleting the entry, scan for new
hardware, etc.

Other than that, if this seems to be onboard or card related, move the NIC
to another slot. Good luck!
