After running RC1 for months and it working absolutely and totally PERFECTLY
for me, i got hold of Vista Ultimate and installed on on the same pc.

However it is s-l-o-w. Opening IE takes a while and even opening a new tab
in the same program or trying to scroll down a web page can cause it to
stall...give me a (not responding) and then eventually wake up and carry on.
Installing BF2 took about 20 minutes rather than the 3 or 4 that im used to!

I did initally think it was an SATA/ATA driver problem but i've gotten hold
of the latest chipset that *HAS* been updated for vista and now i'm really
stuck. The drives all say they are using DMA modes and i can't see where it
could be. It's not indexing as i have turned it off, i've tried turning
EVERY 'enhancement' off and it is still the same.

It's not a poor system, scores just under 5 on the performance score, 3Gb
RAM, 3.4 HT Pentium, X800xt graphics card.

Anyone have any ideas or suggestions on how to kick it into speed up time?

Taa.

yes. format C:\ drive and reinstall XP.

just kidding. but truth is, you're not the only one. the system is damn
slower even with a good machine.

For me, Vista is the Windows ME of 21st century.

Actually, I've found the opposite. It seems quite peppy, and I like the new
interface (although - Aero excepted - it is only what XP should have been to
start with).

Although I like Microsoft-bashing as much as anyone, to be honest I'm quite
impressed by Vista.

Not my experience. Best not to make generalizations. If it is so in your
experience on your machine then qualify it with that.
