i have never done any audio/video recording until
just a few days ago...

if i play an .avi there is a lag of at least 1 second between
audio and video.

the machine is an amd-1100 with 640 megs of RAM
and a lo-end video card.

when i replaced the video card with a GeForce4...
much to my surprise...there was still *no* difference at all!

I tried playing the .avi's with both Real Player and Windows Media
player...and again...it made no difference.

Also tried booting over to different OS's
XP, Win2k, Win98 and all with the same results...
so it looks like I must have some kind of a H/W problem...

btw: tried the same .avi's in another machine ...AMD-2200 with
a gig of ram and they played beautifully...

so if anyone has a possible fix...please suggest something.

i have a spare p-IV machine in the basement
that i may now have to use as my main machine...
if i'm going to get into video editing

<snip>

fwiw: i converted a few avi's to mpg
and they work fine...
so the problem is specific to avi's and the h/w on the machine...

maybe i'll just use mpg's for now
