Lack of connection

I have a strange problem involving 2 windows 2000 pro
machines connecting to a win2k server. A few days ago all
was fine, internet connection sharing was turned on,
giving out ip addresses and so on, until 2 days ago.

First one, then the other machine stopped receiving an ip
address from the server. Both are now self-configuring
with the auto-assign ip range (169.blahblah). Ok, says me,
I'll set a static address and it should work. Sort of. At
first, both machines would see the server, but were unable
to resolve its DNS name, or reach the Net.

I've ruled out hardware, the connection has always been
fine, and just to check it, I used a cable tester to check
all links. Other machines on the same switch are
functioning properly, including another W2K Pro machine
(so it's not the OS). Is there something that I've
neglected to consider?

Any assistance greatly appreciated.

If your clients are not getting proper addresses from the RAS server, then
your DHCP Server has probably run out of addresses.
Please check your DHCP server and check the availability of addresses in the
appropriate range.
