I am running a lab with Win2k OS on a NT4 network.
For the last 2 years, I would install the Network printer
as an Administrator and it would show up in everyone's
profile. This year, no matter what I do on my new Win2k
systems, it doesn't work. I have tried everything I can
think of.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Dan

Printing is stored in the user's profile. There are only
two ways I have been able to add printers so they are
machine based. One way is to use IPP (but that is not
available in NT4 servers) and pasting the URL
(http://servername/printers/printername/.printer) of the
local print server running IIS. The other way is when
adding a printer through the Add Printer wizard, chose
local port (remove PNP check box) then select to create a
new local port. For the name define the IP address of the
printer and then finish the rest of the configuration of
the printer drivers, don't share it, etc. These two
methods will create printers for the machine and not be
used based. MS did have a VB script you could use posted
on their website which would allow you to add printers
each time they login to the network no matter which PC
they logged into. The VB script would be part of the login
script. MS just doesn't get the idea that Novell used
about printers being machne specific and not based on
profiles.
