L1710S Monitor won't accept ClearType. Why?

I recently bought an LG Flatron L1710S LCD monitor which is using a NVIDIA
GeForce FX 5200 graphics card.
I would like to improve the appearance of text on screen and have been
trying to use ClearType fom the Display Properties/
Appearance/Effects dialogue box.

However, each time ClearType is selected and I click OK the Apply button is
greyed out and the ClearType is not invoked.
Can someone give me a clue about why this should be? Is the monitor (which
is VGA only ie no DVI option) incompatible with
the card with regard to ClearType or what?

Any solutions?
Thanks

Download and install the new ClearType Tuner Powertoy:

Carey,
many thanks. The Powertoy worked like a charm and improved things
considerably.
I may not have to revert to a CRT now.
