Just posted about Brother laser duplex printers and noticed this one which
is around £230 with auto duplex. Anyone know of this one?
Yup. Got a FS-1020DN, replacing my faithful 1010 (w/o duplux) with it.
Works as expected -- well and fast, and supports not only windoze but
also the mix of OS/2 and UNICes (FreeBSD , Linux, Solaris x86) I have
print to it.
So far, no jamming whatsoever, even with less than top-grade paper.
You may wish to get an extra toner cartridge right away though as the
one supplied is one of those 'limited capacity' ones bound to print only
about 1000 pages, while a normal one prints 6000+ pages.
Other than the FS-1010, it does not exhibit the funny slight clicking
noise when in standby.
Expansion memory can be the same as for the FS-1010, i.e. standard RAM
rather than the expensively priced Kyocera RAM. Here are the specs
It's a 100 pin DIMM module with eight chips. There are four on each side saying
0122 1-1 (or 2-2)
MT 48LC16M8A2
TG -75 E
I suppose this means 75ns RAM. The print on the module itself says
8/16Mx32 SDRAM DIMM
This gives a total of 128MB, 64 MB will be along similar lines.
All in all, I like it a lot.
Cheers, Stefan
