Hi!

i'm looking for an KVM switch wich supports at least 8 users and 8
ports. This can be more, but not less!

I contacted Raritan, but their Kvm switch is much to expensive! And
also some other branches had KVM switches, but most of them are based
on TCP/IP.

who has some expreience with these switches, and can tell me wich one
is the best for a good price?

greetings,

Laurence

Laurence, from the sounds of it your looking for an enterprise level KVM. Your
not going to find this kind of switch at your basic Compusa place. Expect to
spend a min of $800 and this may be an extreme understatement. Quick search
found this

no idea how competive the prices are but try looking for online retailers. But
yeah, I dont think your going to find inexpesive switches of the caliber your
looking for.
Good Luck

You are not likely to find a cheap KVM with more than 4 ports built-in,
but some can be chained together so you can get 4xN ports. The Belkin
Pro2 has 8 ports and can be slaved up to 15 more KVMs ($270 at
newegg.com). Be sure to get best-quality cables to reduce attenuation
and interference.

Note, you have the concept reversed. A KVM doesn't allow N users on 1
host. It allows 1 user on N hosts. So no KVM will support 8 users on 1
or 8 hosts, but it may support 1 user to 8 hosts. There are some
administrator-level KVMs that gives 2 to 4 admin users access to N
hosts.

Since you never mentioned what Raritan model you were looking at, and
provided not much in the way of description regarding minimum features,
managements, case or rack mount, etc., then it's a bit hard to know what
to recommend. We've use the Belkins in your $7M lab and on our desktops
with good success (once we replaced the cheap cables).

Try checking out Belkin brand KVM switches. They tend to be well built and
reasonably priced.

cdw.com has a 8 port dlink kvm for around $200 bucks, it works pretty well,
I use it at work
